In episode 20 (#2.013, Checkmate), Dick and Andy search through Little Nicky's records at the Dorritt Home for Boys. A few magazines can be seen on a table to Dick's side.

The most prominent cover is the December 1990 issue of Mad Magazine.

In episode 12 (#2.005, The Orchid's Curse) Bobby Briggs reads a magazine as Tim Pinkle gives a demonstration of a lifting device intended for Leo.

The magazine Bobby is reading is the November 1989 issue of Shooting Times magazine.

Both magazines come from dates beyond February or March of 1989, when the series was set. Another example of the series having ties to the time it was made rather than the year in which it was meant to take place.
