Laura Palmer's Clothing in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me and The Missing Pieces
This post covers Laura Palmer's outfits as they appear in the film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me and its deleted scenes known as The Missing Pieces. Though others have undoubtedly made similar posts, I am sharing this with the hope it can be used as a possible reference for artists and cosplayers. Laura's clothes are an extension of herself; they convey information and reflect her character. We can honor her by paying attention to what she wore.
Laura Palmer's wardrobe evokes midcentury Americana, a theme that pervades David Lynch's work. She favors Earth Tone sweater sets paired with plaid knee-length skirts along with pearl and hoop earrings. Some items, such as her moss green jacket and her half-heart necklace, carry over from night to day, a tie between the two Lauras.
Laura's outfits are listed in the order in which I believe they were originally meant to appear, meaning that some outfits, such as Laura talking to BOB
beneath the ceiling fan, will be moved from Thursday to Tuesday. In the theatrical cut, after Laura leaves her diary in safe keeping, we briefly see her in her home under the fan. Throughout the day on Thursday, she wears a sweater set and skirt. However, when she is under the fan, she wears a red blouse and jeans - the same outfit she wore on Tuesday in the theatrical cut.
Images and descriptions of Laura in lingerie are omitted from
this list out of respect.
Thursday
Throughout the day on Thursday, Laura wears a brown cardigan sweater set and a brown plaid skirt with tan and blue/green accents. She pairs this with pearl earrings, her half-heart necklace, a watch, brown flats, and a small cinnamon and tawny brown purse. She will later wear a green jacket.

On Friday, Laura wears a sage green sweater set with a light beige plaid wrap skirt that has yellow, red, and blue accents. She wears her dark green coat, pearl earrings, a watch, and the same pair of shoes as Thursday. Her earrings will be the only jewelry accessory to change in the film. She wears her half-heart necklace on and off throughout the day. She may at times wear it under her sweater.
On Friday night, Laura wears a black satin nightgown to bed. She sees herself wearing this gown in her dream or vision.
Saturday
Laura's nighttime look for Saturday consists of a black and green dress, possibly suede or velvet, and a matching bolero jacket. She pairs this with black hosiery and heels. Her lipstick is a darker shade than she wears in the day. Her eyeshadow appears to be gold with smoky gray highlights.
SUNDAY
On Sunday, Laura wears an oversized green ribbed turtleneck with a pair of blue jeans. We don't see her shoes, though she is wearing purple socks while talking to Donna. Her earrings appear to be dark yellow vintage ball earrings with gold posts. They may be made of plastic or glass.
On Sunday night, Laura wears a pink robe over a lighter-colored nightgown as she remembers those she's seen wearing the same ring.
MONDAY
On Monday morning, Laura wears a dark green knit blouse with a light gray cardigan, paired with a two-tone green and white plaid skirt. She wears silver partial hoop earrings with dangling pearls. She may be wearing a pair of brown loafers.
TUESDAY
Laura wears a red blouse with jeans and the same gold partial hoop earrings from the night before. She appears to be wearing a pair of dark brown loafers with gray socks. This may be the same pair of shoes she wore on Monday.
WEDNESDAY
The Missing Pieces includes an outfit not seen in the theatrical cut of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. in the August 8th, 1991 draft of the scrip, the scene is said to have taken place on Wednesday.
All we can see of Laura's clothing is a space blue cardigan and a heather blouse.
THURSDAY
Laura returns to the same outfit we saw her wear on the previous Thursday, the brown sweater set, plaid skirt, purse, green jacket and shoes. She wears small partial hoop earrings with silver charms.

When Laura returns from school, she ties back her hair. She wears it this way when she has dinner with her mother and when she visits Bobby Briggs.
When Laura makes to get ready for her meeting with Leo, Jacques, and Ronette, she wears a black cardigan over her lingerie. She pairs this with sheer tights, thigh-high stockings, and black heels.
She wears this same sweater under her green Jacket, over or with a black skirt or dress, along with the same plain partial hoop earrings she wore Monday night through Tuesday.

The Black Lodge
Laura is briefly seen in the Black Lodge. Her black dress is paired with heels of the same color, glistening earrings, and an ornate brooch whose design is unclear, though it seems to incorporate gold, one large green stone, seven pearls, and rhinestones. In 2017's Twin Peaks: The Return, Laura wears a different brooch depicting a Chinese dragon. Laura's makeup evokes the 1930s or '40s. She seems to be wearing a darker version of the makeup she wore before she and Donna visited Partyland. She wears gold eyeshadow with smoky gray highlights, heavy eyeliner, penciled brows, and a deeper shade of red lipstick. Her hair is styled in vintage waves and curls. Her face seems slightly paler than usual, which makes me think of how women in the past favored facial powder. More on Laura's makeup here.
