Deleted Dialogue From a Scene In Episode 11

Twin peaks, Josie Packard, Jonathan Kumagui, Pete Martell, Twin peaks deleted scene, Twin peaks script

In episode 11 (2.004, Laura's Secret Diary), a scene containing Pete, Josie, and Jonathan begins abruptly with Josie's dialogue over an establishing shot of the Blue Pine Lodge. The script online can't tell us how this scene may have originally began because the pages are missing. The script starts at the same moment as the televised version, though it states the scene is continued, meaning there may have once been more.

Note that in the image above, Pete is holding a taxidermy piece and a feather duster, and is near a ladder. He may have been cleaning when Josie and Jonathan entered the room.

The dialogue we hear on screen is as follows,

Josie:
Pete, meet my cousin Jonathan.

Pete:
Jonathan.

Josie:
Pete, you thinking cousin have some joe? After a long flight, it will help him reset his biographical clock.

Pete:
Mmm-hmm. That's Biological. I think so. I just made a fresh pot. Here *hands Josie the taxidermy piece* Cup 'a joe, coming up. *to Josie* Biological.

Josie:
Biological.

Pete exits. Jonathan drops the act.

Jonathan:
I don't know how you've lasted six years. Nothing but hayseeds and manual laborers.

Josie:
(drops her act as well)
We all got our job to do.

Jonathan:
Yours is nearly finished. The sale of the mill and the Packard lands?

Josie:
Signing contracts soon. I need Pete's signature. He's Catherine's heir.

Jonathan:

Will that be difficult?

Josie:
No.

Jonathan:
How long?

Josie:
Two days.

Jonathan:
We're expected back in Hong Kong. Mr. Eckhardt wants very much to see you.  Are there any other ... complications?

Josie:
There might be a problem with Hank.

Jonathan:
I'll deal with him. Are we suspected?

Josie:
Certainly not.

Jonathan:
What about the sheriff?

Josie:
He means nothing to me.

Jonathan:
That's not what I asked you.

The scene ends abruptly with lighting coloring the room.

The dialogue as it appears in the script will follow. I've underlined the opening dialogue for the scene as it is in the televised episode, tinted some of the deleted dialogue red, and added asterisks (*) to mark personal notes.

26. CONTINUED:

JOSIE

Peter, this is my cousin, Jonathan. (* changed to "Pete, meet my cousin Jonathan.")

PETE
Pleasure to meet you, Jonathan.

JONATHAN
(thick accent; shy and halting)
Thank you, Mr. Pete. Josie has told so much about you.

PETE
So you've come over to visit us from Hong Kong.

JONATHAN

Yes. Hong Kong.

PETE
Josie tells me you run the best little fish market in town.

JONATHAN
I don't know. Very competitive.

JOSIE
I'm afraid cousin is in need of some good old American how-now.

PETE
That's know-how, all you need, Jon, is a good contact here can air cargo you some King salmon, fresh, daily. Run those other rascals right out of business.

Jonathan laughs, smiles shyly, toes the carpet.

JOSIE
Pete, could cousin have some joe? After his long flight it will help him reset his biographical clock.

PETE
(a half-whisper) Biological. Cup 'a joe, coming right up.

Pete exits. Jonathan drops the act. His voice is lower; accent British, clipped, urbane.

JONATHAN
I don't know how you've lasted six years. Nothing but hayseeds and manual laborers.

JOSIE
(drops her act as well)
We all have our job to do.

JONATHAN
Yours is nearly finished. The sale of the mill and the Packard lands?

JOSIE
Signing contracts soon. I need Pete's signature. He's Catherine's heir.

JONATHAN
Will that be difficult?

JOSIE
No.

JONATHAN
How long?

JOSIE
Two days.

JONATHAN
We're expected back in Hong Kong. (she doesn't respond) Mr. Eckhardt wants very much to see you. (Josie doesn't respond) Are there any other ... complications?

JOSIE
There may be a problem with Hank.

JONATHAN
I'll deal with him. Are we suspected?

JOSIE
Certainly not.

JONATHAN
What about this sheriff?

JOSIE
He means nothing to me.

JONATHAN
(reading between the lines)
That's not what I asked you.

Pete returns with some coffee. Josie and Jonathan resume their roles.

PETE
Here we go, fresh pot. Help yourself to cream and sugar.

JONATHAN
Thank you, Mr. Pete.

PETE
And I can promise you, it hasn't been anywhere near a fish.

(a blank look from Jonathan; Pete and Josie smile) Private joke.

Since the scene visually begins with Josie, Pete, and Jonathan, with Josie saying, "Pete, you thinking cousin have some joe? After a long flight it will help him reset his biographical clock" It is an indication that the dialogue preceding this in the script was filmed but omitted, hence the need for dialogue over the establishing shot of the Blue Pine Lodge. Listening to the scene with headphones, you can notice the change in their voices in the establishing shot vs. the interior scene.

If you look closely at the blinds by Jonathan, you can see the outline of a person, possibly Pete as he returns to the room. The scene cuts at this moment. This indicates the dialogue where Pete and Josie share their private joke about the fish in the percolator may have been filmed.
