The Carpet and Claws

In season two, episode one (2.001,  May the Giant Be With You ), Maddy Ferguson has a vision in the Palmer living room. The carpet near her chair rapidly becomes darkened by a stain or an effect called pooling, or sometimes watermarking, which happens when fibers are moved in an opposing direction. The reason I question if it is a stain is that claw marks seem to appear after the darkness has spread.  Notice the marks intentionally raked across the carpet (Below).

The Leaf Wall Pocket in the Johnson Residence

A pink and white wall pocket decorates the wall above the stove in the Johnson residence. It is visible in several episodes of Twin Peaks. The first time I recall seeing it is in episode 4 (The One-Armed Man, 1.004). The last is in episode 20 (2.013, Checkmate).

The piece is The Leaf wall pocket made by the Nelson McCoy Pottery Co. It was first manufactured by the company in 1949. A significant amount of information on The Leaf wall pocket can be read here. The link is provided by the McCoy Pottery Collectors Society.

The color difference in Shelly and Leo's wall pocket versus those most often found online was cause for some worry regarding reproductions. Though, according to the article, the painting scheme of each wall pocket may vary. The heavy red filters used for Twin Peaks may also aid in altering its hue.

It is difficult to find the item on sites such as eBay and Etsy under its true name 'McCoy leaf wall pocket.' Most are listed under 'Maple leaf and berries' or 'McCoy leaves and berries' though the McCoy Pottery Company made another piece by the latter name.

After having found its make, I (mistakenly) purchased a variation because of its low price of $7. Mine is not a wall pocket but an ashtray. The only difference I'm aware of is that it is without a means to mount it on a wall. Nevertheless, I am very happy to own it. It is a truly beautiful piece.
