Deputy Hawk's Off-Duty Style in Twin Peaks

This post focuses on Deputy Tommy Hill's off-duty style as it appears in the first and second seasons of
Twin Peaks

Hawk's most commonly worn ensemble is both casual and visually appealing. His is a classic, effortless style with a western flair. The one example we see of his formal wear proves that Hawk has immaculate fashion sense. Hawk dresses for comfort and warmth, but he does not disregard his image.

The first time we see Hawk outside of uniform is in the season one finale (episode seven, The Last Evening, 2.006).

The clearest shots of Hawk's shoes. He appears to be wearing boots. They may be the same pair he wears while on duty.

Hawk's jacket appears to be a heavy-canvas blazer. It may be wool. We can see it has a zipper closure and elastic ribbing. The sleeves have snap closures, which Hawk has left open in the photo above. They appear to be open in episode four as well. (Below.)

Hawk wears the same ensemble when he rescues Cooper and Sheriff Truman at One-Eyed Jack's (episode 12, 2.005, The Orchid's Curse). The only discernable change is that he is wearing a different belt buckle and forewent a t-shirt beneath his denim shirt. We see that Hawk is possibly wearing the same boots with his outfit along with his signature turquoise drop earring.

I assume Hawk's earrings are from Michael Horse's personal collection. Mr. Horse is a renowned artist. You can find jewelry made by him and other artists, along with other goods, at Gatheringtribes.com

Hawk's belt.

Michael Horse wore this belt buckle during several public appearances.  One photo is dated before Mr. Horse filmed episode 12, suggesting the buckle is his own.

In episode 18 (2.011, Masked Ball), Hawk dresses formally while attending Dougie and Lana's wedding. Sadly, Hawk's look is never revealed in full in the televised episode.

Hawk wears a light gray and cream striped jacket with a matching gray western tie. A mustard yellow shirt is paired with his jacket.

The only other glimpse we see of Hawk is in the background as Lana and Dougie speak to Cooper and Denise at the reception.

Thankfully, two behind the scenes photo are available on The Mauve Zone site.

Judging by the fact that Catherine Coulson and Tony Jay are wearing the same costumes they were at the reception, we can assume Michael Horse is as well. With these images we can determine that Hawk wore brown pants with his gray jacket.

Hawk's sense of style suits his character, and it is even more interesting that some pieces came from Mr. Horse's wardrobe.
