Deputy Hawk's Off-Duty Style in Twin Peaks

This post focuses on Deputy Tommy Hill's off-duty style as it appears in the first and second seasons of Twin Peaks .

Laura Palmer's Black Lodge Brooch in Images

This post could not have been made without the help of my sister.

Although Laura Palmer's Black Lodge brooch may vary from the original series to The Return, I believe it is always a dragon accented by three green gems and a series of pearls.

Matthew Haywood of MatthewHaywardArts helped me by enhancing this still of Laura's brooch from the Twin Peaks pilot.

The images below are my brightened screenshots of the brooch.

I believe we see the tail of the dragon wrapped around a pearl. Scales seem to gleam on its silver body. Two green gemstones flank the dragon, and a third gem is at its end. The third appears to dangle from the main piece, which somewhat resembles a war medal dangling from a ribbon. There are two pearls at the top, one in the middle, two more beneath the green gems, and four pearls frame the largest gem. Nine pearls. The dragon almost appears to be winged, though it's difficult to determine.

Though the images above are far from clear, they are included with the hope to convey that the bottom of the brooch sways with movement. It is not an entirely solid piece.

The Return

Laura wears a different dragon brooch when we see her in The Return

This brooch also depicts a dragon and three green gems. It is purposefully upside-down. Eight pearls complete the piece. It has three dangling charms.

A high-definition photo of Sheryl Lee as Laura Palmer, from Entertainment Weekly, helps us see the brooch from The Return in better detail.

The image above helps us see that the dragon appears to have four claws, including a thumb. The pearls seem to be in at least three different colors, four white matte, perhaps three polished cream colored pearls and one gray. The three dangling charms have intricate designs. The green gems are firmly encased in a bezel setting.

The brooch from a different angle.

The brooch may feature a dragon from south or southeast Asia.
