Johnny Horne's Copy of Peter Pan

When Johnny Horne attends Laura Palmer's funeral in episode three (Rest in Peace, 1.003) he brings with him a copy of J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan. It is easily seen as Bobby gives his speech.

In greater detail.

Johnny also appears to have the book beside him on the table in episode two (Zen or The Skill To Catch A Killer, 1.002).

The book is by Johnny's table setting. Notice how the book is not visible in the images below. This is after the credits finish. Perhaps Johnny took hold of the novel, obscuring it from view. If he did, he would almost have to be holding it to his chest, as if in fondness or for comfort.

Close-shot.

Robert Bauer, the actor who portrayed Johnny during the original series, spoke about the book in Ben Durant and Byron Kozaczka's Twin Peaks: Unwrapped,

"I went to a bookstore to look for books that I felt might be meaningful to Johnny. I found a first edition of Peter Pan that kind of opened up a world that I felt I could inhabit as this character. Not growing up, forever a child and comfort in that. Not a struggle, but a real comfort in that. I had this book and that was sort of my talisman I used and carried into the scene with me."

We know from The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer that Johnny loved Laura to read to him. Perhaps Peter Pan was one of the books they read together.
