Is The Fireman's Globe Meant To Evoke Vintage Newsreel Footage?

Twin Peaks: The Return, Twin Peaks

One cannot help but think of vintage newsreel footage while seeing the representation of Earth to which the orb bearing Laura's likeness is sent. A Google search for "Newsreel Footage" yields images and videos from Universal-International Newsreels.

Note the stars surrounding the globe in the Universal video. When the screen featuring the globe is first seen in The Return, it is also surrounded by stars.

According to this site, Universal Newsreels were made from 1929 to 1967. From the site, "In the pre-TV era, people saw the news every week in their neighborhood movie theaters. Newsreels were shown before every feature film and in dedicated newsreel theaters located in large cities. Universal Newsreel, produced from 1929 to 1967, was released twice a week. Each issue contained six or seven short stories, usually one to two minutes in length, covering world events, politics, sports, fashion, and whatever else might entertain the movie audience."

David Lynch must have seen some newsreels in his time. In the mid-to-late '90s, when I was a child, AMC and VaultDisney occasionally aired vintage newsreels and varied shorts.

This site states that most newsreels from 1941 - 1945 were destroyed in a nitrate fire in 1978.
