Textbooks and a Magazine In Episodes 18 and 19

Nadine Hurley, Twin Peaks

This post is unlike others in my book-related posts in that I'm sharing titles despite my inability to find matches. If I am able to find matches in the future, they will be added to this post.

In episode 18 (Masked Ball, 2.011), as Nadine speaks to Donna, we can see the titles of two books.

One of the two books in Nadine's grasp appears to be a driver's education textbook titled Sportsmanlike Driving. This particular copy is the 1970 sixth edition. There is more information here.

The second book is American Democracy In World Perspective. I am unable to find an exact match, despite many searches. The closest copy I've been able to locate is the fourth edition. Nadine's copy is a hardback, has a different cover, and the text is in a different font and placement.

Though I do not have the time or patience to locate a replica, Mike has a copy of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in his back pocket. Perhaps the book is meant as a foreshadowing of Nadine and Mike's doomed relationship.

In episode 19, when Mike approaches Donna, he has a textbook in his hand.

The book is titled Western Civilizations

The copy Mike has states it is the ninth edition. I have searched for this particular version without fruition. From what I understand, the book has been in print for 75 years with revisions made by different authors.

A book from the series as found on Thriftbooks.com

In the same scene with Mike, Donna withdraws a magazine along with her school books.

The front of the magazine.

More of the cover.

The back cover.

The magazine is the October 1988 issue of Seventeen Magazine.

Donna also has a book with the words Accounting 10 12 along its spine. Searching "Accounting 10 12,  Freeman, Hanna, Khan, Weaver," I found it listed on two sites without an image under the title Elements of Financial Records (Accounting 10/12 Series). Here is the Amazon listing.

Donna also had this book in her locker in episode 18.

On Donna's locker door is an image of a rabbit cut from the front of a greeting card, a comic strip, and a small flag that seems to read "Ups 'N Downs."
